Outland Game Night
🗓️ Oct 13, 2026, 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM 📍 Onassis ONX, 390 Broadway
Organized by Brian Droitcour and Sean Kennedy
This first public edition of Outland Game Night will feature game designers Lawra Suits Clark and Cosmo D, who will each play through sections of games-in-progress while discussing the choices they have made around worldbuilding, narrative, mechanics, and other aspects of game design.
Some of the most exciting work in game design is happening in interactive narrative, where artists use games to tell stories that unfold over hours of engaged play. This kind of work can be difficult to present in an exhibition or conventional event. Audiences rarely arrive prepared to spend that much time with a single work, and the experience is often best suited to playing at home.
The playthrough lecture offers a way to present this work in greater depth while making its development and design choices accessible to an audience. By playing selected sections and talking through their decisions as they go, the artists can give audiences a sense of how these games work without requiring them to experience the entire work in one sitting.
Lawra Suits Clark and Cosmo D will each give a playthrough lecture, followed by a social hour during which guests can mingle and, having learned more about the work, play excerpts from the featured games.
Participants
Lawra Suits Clark is an educator and game designer and a co-founder of Babycastles Gallery, a nonprofit organization dedicated to showcasing contemporary independent videogames and other media by marginalized creators. Clark's own work explores climate fiction, absurdist futures, death positivity, ambient play, and game mechanics as poetic devices. They are currently a Visiting Assistant Arts Professor in Game Design and Development at NYU Tisch School of the Arts.
Cosmo D is a game designer and musician whose work explores art as labor and the city as a stage where the two become indistinguishable. Their games combine improvisation grounded in thematic structures with meticulously designed worlds, drawing on both found and designed assets and their background as a musician. Their work often appears strange on the surface while remaining carefully constructed underneath.
