The Onassis ONX Community encompasses both Members and Fellows working across art and advanced technology. Members form the long-term foundation of the community, engaging through sustained access to our studios in New York and Athens, creative and technical consultation, peer exchange, and public programming. Fellows join through time-bound programs that may take the form of focused production support, research initiatives, or institutional partnerships. Together, they contribute to an international network of creatives pursing ambitious works through a shared culture of experimentation, dialogue, and exchange across disciplines and geographies.
Onassis ONX Members form the core of our creative community for art and advanced technology. Membership is grounded in demonstrated artistic rigor and an active commitment to experimentation across fields such as immersive and spatial media, artificial intelligence, performance, games, networked systems, and other disciplines blending the physical and digital. These creatives engage within a framework of long-term studio access, technical and curatorial consultation, peer exchange, and programming opportunities through both the greater Onassis ecosystem and across an international network of institutions and collaborators.
The Onassis ONX Fellowship program supports time-bound, project-focused engagement for artists working at Onassis ONX New York. Fellows are selected based on the strength of their practice, strong conceptual rigor with technology used in a meaningful ways, and the potential impact of their engagement with the greater ONX community. Fellows receive access to studio production resources, technical and curatorial consultation with ONX staff, and the potential to partake in ONX exhibitions and other programming. The fellowship does not include stipends or direct production funding. Applications are reviewed twice annually in early February and July. Please submit applications here.
ONX Relay is a new commissioning and distribution initiative that supports artists creating technology-driven artworks while building pathways for them to reach new audiences around the world. Designed to bridge the gap between artistic experimentation and institutional presentation, ONX Relay combines funding with access to production resources, technical expertise, curatorial guidance, and strategic introductions to presenting institutions, helping artists realize ambitious new projects whose complexity often places them beyond the reach of traditional commissioning models. Over the course of a year, Relay cohort artists will be supported through our Onassis ONX studios and by our staff in both New York and Athens.
The Onassis AiR/ONX Fellowships are research-driven residencies based in Athens that support artists working at the intersection of culture, technology, and human experience. Launched in 2023, the core program is a two-month residency designed for exploratory projects that approach technology as both medium and subject, while the Extended Research Residencies support longer-term investigations requiring sustained technical development and conceptual rigor. Fellows gain access to the Onassis Ready studio for hands-on experimentation and engage with ONX New York through an ongoing international exchange, situating their work within a broader ecosystem of artistic research, production, and cross-institutional collaboration. The Collider Fellowship is a nine-month residency at Lincoln Center for six artists working at the forefront of performance and technology. As a core partner, Onassis ONX provides studio access and technical resources, extending the fellowship across a shared ecosystem and supporting artists through research, experimentation, and institutional presentation. Extended Realities is a focused track within NEW INC supporting artists and studios exploring the intersection of physical and digital experience. In partnership with Onassis ONX, the Extended Realities program provides access to technical resources, studio infrastructure, and a broader ecosystem dedicated to immersive media, performance, and experimental practice. The Onassis ONX + MIT Open Doc Lab Fellowship is a reciprocal exchange placing one artist from each community within the partner institution’s ecosystem to research emerging technologies in the context of nonfiction storytelling. The program emphasizes curatorial dialogue and sustained collaboration across institutional and disciplinary contexts.
The Inaugural Onassis ONX + Pioneer Works Fellowship supports one Pioneer Works Alumni Resident each year by providing access to Onassis ONX New York production facilities and resources, along with creative and technical consultations with Onassis ONX and Pioneer Works staff. It also includes a $5,000 honorarium for the production of new media artworks over the course of the twelve-month fellowship period.
