N’ZINGA MBONDO
N’Zinga Mbondo Damara Inglês
N’Zinga Mbondo is an installation that stages a cyber-ritual of rebirth, reimagining the afterlife of Queen N’Zinga of Angola through 3D design, AI video generation, and augmented reality. Emerging from the framework of “Cyber-Kimbandism”— a conceptual and aesthetic framework that merges Bantu cosmologies with immersive technologies—the work treats technology as a vessel of animism and an algorithmic ritual. The video unfolds as Queen Nzinga’s cyber-spirit, fractured by history, re-gathers itself across speculative terrains until it takes root as a Mbondo tree of interconnected souls. The work interrogates both historical and contemporary structures of power as a re-interpretation of the traditional Kongo Nkisi, and inhabits the speculative space of spiritual fiction to merge technology and myth.
Commissioned by the Museu Afro Brasil (São Paulo, Brazil) for the exhibition “Uma História de Poder na África”, curated by Vanicléia Santos.
