Sean Capone
I am a NYC-based video artist working in digital animation, public art, spoken word, and motion capture performance. I received my MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (Time Arts, 1994), and was awarded an NYSCA/NYFA Fellowship Prize in Digital/Electronic Art in 2020. I have worked as a professional animation designer and exhibiting artist for over 30 years, since my undergraduate studies in the Video Art/New Genres program initiated at the University of Texas by pioneering new media artist Jim Pomeroy.
Recent notable public art projects include commissions for MTA Arts & Design for Grand Central Madison (2025) and for Minneapolis St. Paul International Airport (2026).
Through my "Avatar Poetics" series, I activate an array of digital alter-egos embodied through 3D animation, motion capture, A.I., and absurdist spoken word performances which reflect upon the sensory and emotional conditions of life within the uncanny valley.
