Diane Cescutti
Diane Cescutti is a French transmedia artist based in Saint-Étienne. Her practice emerges from the loom and its role in the birth of computation. Traversing the entangled paths of weaving and computer code, she uncovers the ethereal algorithm linking both worlds.
Through a speculative, histofuturistic, and narrative approach, Cescutti explores the historical, technological, mathematical, and aesthetic links between weaving, textiles, computers, and digital technology. She combines weaving, sculpture, installation, video, 3D, interactive systems and text in order to rethink, redefine, and question our relationship with these technologies and the ways in which they are deployed as tools for knowledge transmission, data storage, tradition, and spirituality.
As both an artist and craftswoman, Cescutti’s use of materials and techniques consistently honors traditional textile knowledge and frames craft as a form of soft technology. She is recipient of the 2023 Faku'Gesi award for digital art and the 2024 Prix Ars Electronica for Interactive Art+ 2024.
